Explore the town

Take some time to wander through Akureyri’s charming streets, discover its cafés, restaurants and shops, and visit some of the town’s museums, galleries and cultural attractions. The town is compact and easy to explore on foot, with colourful houses, gardens and views across Eyjafjörður adding to its character.

Experience Eyjafjörður

Akureyri sits at the head of Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in Iceland. The sheltered waters and surrounding mountains create a spectacular setting for exploring the region from the sea. Whale watching, boat trips and other marine experiences offer a different perspective on the landscape and the wildlife that inhabits these waters.

Get outdoors

The mountains and valleys around Akureyri are ideal for spending time outdoors.
